SCOUT RALLY

GATHERING AT CARTERTON i ST MATTHEW'S WINS BEETHAM SHIELD. HIGH STANDARD SET. i "Times-Age" Special, i The Wairarapa District Boy Scout Rally was held at the Wairarapa A. and P. Association's Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon in fine weather. There was a large attendance, and troops were present from all parts of the district. The Beetham Shield for the troop winning the highest aggregate points was won for ihr first time by the St Matthew’s (Masterton) troop, from the holders. Featherston. A very high standard was set m all the tests. The parade was led by ihe District Commissioner. Mr N. C. C. Shepherd. The judges of the events were Messrs J. A. Halpin (District Scoutmaster), Herbert Clark, T. Anker and R. Isles. The District Commissioner congratulated the Scouts upon their excellent work, and called upon the Mayor. Mr D. L. Taverner, to present the Beetham Shield to St Matthew’s. Following is the result of the various competitions: , Tent pitching (possible 53 points:: S' Matthew's (Masterton). 46. 1; Featherston and. Greyto.wn, equal. 43 points. 2. Mokatoa 32.1 Ambulance (possible 100).—St Matthew's 81 points, 1; Greytown and Featherston. 79 points (equal) 2. Carterton, 76. 3. Mokatoa 75. Signalling (possible 50.--Greytown, 45 points, 1; Carterton, 43 points, 2; Featherstonr. 42 points. 3. Mokatoa and St Matthew's 36 each.

Fire lighting and water boiling (possible 50).—Carterton, 50 points, 1; St Matthew’s. 40 points, 2; Mokatoa. 25 points, 3.

Trestle building (possible 10'.- St. Matthew’s, 35 points, 1; Grey town. ,‘;2 points. 2; Featherston. 30 points, 3. Mokatoa 36. Carterton 23. Knot tying (possible 25).—St Matthew’s 25 points. 1: Greytown 20. :>; Mokatoa 15, 3. Featherston 10, 'Carterton 5.

The points scored by the various competitors were (possible 315), St Matthew’s (Masterton) 263, winner of Beetham Shield; Greytown, 219 points, 2; Mokatoa, 209 points, IlFeatherston, 204; Carterton. 197.
