The Government is not introducing rationing immediately, although it is preparing food cards. The nation is coi.fronted . with three meatless days weekly. Pastrycooks are obliged to close on ’wo days weekly. The Minister of Finance, M. Paul Reynaud, broadcasting, said the decrees constituted the Government's economic programme for war. France was. producing less and consuming as much as or more than in peace time; therefore it was necessary to increase production and to prepare -for every sacrifice in order to limit consumption. It was most important for France to avoid embroilment in. a vicious spiral of soaring prices and increasing wages, having its climax in currency depreciation.
