WELLINGTON, This Day. ot Five thousand people at Athletic le Park, Wellington, on Saturday saw a brilliant military display and quickstep. the conclusion of a memorable is week's performance in the New Zea■y land centennial brass bands championie ship contest. More than 500 bandsmen, representing 23 bands, were on parade, and the quality of the music and the ’e precision with which the marching ■y manoeuvres were carried out were highly praised by the judges. St Kilda Municipal, Dunedin, esn, tablished themselves as champion ir bandsmen by winning the quickstep, p having won the A gradp championship in the test selections earlier in the week. They secured 171 points for ’■ the military section and 84 for the music, a total of 255 points. Wanganui y Garrison were second, two points ahead of St Kilda in the marching, but five'points behind in the music. n Their total was 252 points. Auckland ® Artillery were third, 176:1 points and 75 points respectively, a total of 251?. Drum-Major F. B. Smyth, of this band, won the medal for the highest number o of points for marching. Nelson Garrison won the B grade with a total of 256 points; Wellington Boys' .Institute were second with 249? I points, and Christchurch Municipal third with 248? points. The medal for e the highest number of marching points in this grade was won by Drum-Major H. A. Williams, of Nelson Garrison. The C grade was won by Patea Municipal. 239 points, Wellington-West Coast Regimental Band being second with 235 1 , points, and Waipukurau Municipal third with 2221 points: Drum-Major J.
