KAHUTARA SCHOOL ANNEAL SPORTS MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Kahutara School held its annual picnic at Tauherenikau Racecourse on Friday. The perfect weather tempted many to attend and'all enjoyed the sports. The children did full justice to the fruit, sweets and ice cream which the committee provided. CRICKET FEATHERSTON v PIRATES. Fielding a scratch team against Pirates during the weekend Featherston won by 227 runs to 173. The best score for Featherston was 37 made by McNamara, who gave quite a good display of clean, bright batting. The best individual score for Pirates was 27 made by M. Fuge, who also showed good form. Although beaten Pirates gave their best display of cricket to date. This makes the third match played this season, Featherston having won two to Pirate’s one. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Miss Eugene Clare Doohan took place at the Fea- ■ therston Cemetery on Saturday morning. The Rev Father L. Connor, of Carterton, officiated at the graveside. The Children of Mary were presertt and after placing their posies (blue) on the casket, sang a hymn. The pall bearers were Messrs T. P. Doohan, W. Paton, G. Paton, P. J. Ryan, A. Hall. L. Foley. Word has been received by Constable and Mrs McLeod that their eldest son, Roderick, has been accepted in the Black Watch and is now in the barracks. Perth, Scotland. Mr and Mrs Bargh, Te Kuiti, are the guests of Mr and Mrs C. Bargh, Pahautea. Chief Mechanician Petty Officer L. Hood, of H.M.S. Achilles, who received the Distinguished Service Order, is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs F. S. Hood, of kahutara. He attended the Kaiwaiwai School and later the Wairarapa High School. He entered the Navy 16 years ago. His wife resides at Devonport, Auckland.
