HERD TESTING ASSOCIATION'S REPORT. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Wellington-Hawke’s Bay Herd Improvement Association reports having tested 35.042 cows in the month of January. The average cow produced 331 b butterfat. The- highest group in the Association was that of Rangi-wahia-Apiti. wherein 415 cows averaged 411 b butter-fat. The highest herd in the Association was one of 79 cows which averaged 511 b fat and the highest cow in the Association produced 951 b butter-fat for the 30-day period. The following are the local group figures for the month of January: Group average: Pahiatua, 512 cows, 311 b fat; Konini, 605 cows, 361 b fat; Eketahuna-Rongomai, 680 cows, 371 b fat; Woodville, 1125 cows, 331 b fat; Nireaha-Hukanui, 815 cows, 351 b fat. Highest herd average: Pahiatua, 8 cows, 461 b fat; Konini, 42 cows, 411 b fat; Eketahuna-Rongomai, 52 cows, 42 lb fat; Woodville, two herds, 411 b fat; Nireaha-Hukanui, 45 cows, 421 b fat. Highest cow: Pahiatua, 651 b fat; Konin, 811 b fat; Eketahuna-Rongomai, 73 lb fat; Woodville, 691 b fat; NireahaHukanui, 721 b fat. Sale of Electricity. At the Power Board meeting yesterday the secretary-manager (Mr W. F. Taylor) stated in his report that the electricity sales (net) for January were: Eketahuna Borough, £237 15s; Pahiqtua Borough, -£553 4s sd; country districts, £2406 *l3s sd. EKETAHUNA SCHOOL NEW HEADMASTER APPOINTED. Mr A. B. Fordice, Auckland, has been, appointed headmaster of the Eketahuna District High School in succession to Mr A. P. Wilson. Personal Items. Mrs S. Turley and her two children, Parkville, are on a fortnight’s visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs R. McKinnon and infant son, North Auckland, returned home yesterday after staying with Mrs R. Dickson. Mr R. Dickson has returned from a visit to Wellington. Corporal C. B. G. (Colin) Knight, who this week was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal, is well known in the Rongomai district. He is a brother of Mrs M. Stone-Wigg and Mr Rodney Graham, Tawataia. Mr and Mrs B. Dinnan and their infant daughter left yesterday on a visit to Wairoa. They will later visit Palmerston North and Wellington, where Mr Dinnan will attend the Town Clerks’ Conference.
EXHIBITION VISIT CONTRIBUTION TO FUND. A decision to contribute up to £2O to assist borough children to go to the Exhibition with the district schools’ excursion was made at a special meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr Siddells. moved that the Borough Council contribute the amount of £2O to be spent in assisting indigent children to make the trip, the School Committee to be in sole charge of the funds. This was seconded by Cr Judd and carried unanimously. The decision was made on receipt of a letter from the Pahiatua School Committee pointing out that the county was contributing £2O for county children and asking the borough to take similar action.
