MAURICEVILLE

FAREWELLING SOLDIERS DISTRICT SOMMITTEE SET UP. ■ (“Times-Age” Special.) A public meeting convened by Mr E. W. Cheetham, chairman of the Mauriceville County Council, was held at the Public Hall, Mauriceville, on Thursday evening last, for the purpose of making arrangements for the farewelling of soldiers leaving this district. There was a good attendance, over forty representatives being present from Mauriceville East and West, Ihuraua Valley, Hastwells and Man-, gamahoe. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs V. K. Lemberg, A. Forsberg, G. Neilsen, J. Baine and J. Dwyer, and Mesdames Baine, Kent and Kempton. Mr Cheetham was appointed chairman for the duration of the war. The statement of receiptsand expenditure in connection with the farewell function held in December was adopted. After considerable discussion it was unanimously recommended that a central executive be formed, and that the Hastwells, Ihuraua Valley, and Mauriceville East and West districts be asked to convene meetings and elect three delegates from each to form the central executive. It was also decided that a standard form of presentation should be made and no complimentary tickets be issued except to members of the echelons and their parents. On the motion of Messrs E. W. Cheetham and F, Tildesley it was recommended to the executive that subscription lists be sent out in each district to augment the funds of the executive. Letters were read relating to the campaign to be launched from March 9 to 16. to raise £lOO,OOO. for the National Patriotic Council and from the Masterton Centennial Celebrations Committee inviting the attendance and co-operation of district residents in connection with the Centennial procession to be held at Masterton on March 14.
