PONGAROA SHEEP FAIR

O LAMBS AND WETHERS SELL WELL. " ~ ~ Messrs Dalgety and Company Limited report having held their annual sheep fair in the Pangaroa sale yards on Saturday, when considerably more than the advertised numbers' came forward to a large attendance of local farmers. Very few buyers from outside districts were present. The conditions were by no means pleasant. Drizzling rain set it about midday and continued throughout the sale, which was not completed until 6 p.m. Great difficulty was experienced by the Auc-tioneers,-in yarding the numbers that came forward, and despite the fact that additional pens were erected, and the cattle yards being used, many lines had to be sold in the races. This was not only a great handicap to the selling brokers, but also to vendors and buyers, and the general running of the sale. The yarding exceeded 13,000 sheep. Generally speaking the majority of the lines penned showed the effects of the hard winter. Some 600 two and four-tooth wethers sold under keen competition, and lambs also commanded good attention: on the other hand, however, breeding ewes were hard of sale except for a few wellknown lines. In the six-year old breeding ewe section many vendor’s expectations were not realised, and passings, therefore, were frequent. An attractive line of I'our-year ewes on account of Glencoe station again topped the market in this section at 24s 2d. while a similar line on account of C. A.
