WOMEN’S DIVISION

MEETING IN MASTERTON. DOMINION PRESIDENT TO VISIT BRANCH. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held in Masterton, Mrs Ken Groves presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Boddington, Burling, Engstrom and Mcßae. The meeting opened with the singing of the National Anthem and the recital of the Women’s Creed. Mrs Jackson moved, and Mrs Cameron seconded, that the question of the members of the branch becoming honorary members of the Farmers’ Union be referred to the Provincial Council for consideration. The motion was carried. Mrs Jackson referred to the pleasure it had afforded members to visit the Public Hospital prior to last Christmas, and she expressed the hope that such visits Would be continued in the future. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Provincial Council for the generous gift of an electric clock which is to be placed in the Division rooms. Mrs Noel Adams. Dominion President, will by invitation of the branch, visit Masterton on Tuesday, February 27, and it was arranged to give her a suitable reception the next day. It was reported that at the last executive meeting it was decided to procure at stall at the Masterton Show for the purpose of offering the pioneer book entitled “Brave Days” and the Division cookery books. The question of assisting to provide succour to those who are at present enduring extreme hardship as a result of war in Europe was fully discussed, and it was resolved to consider the ■matter further at the next monthly meeting. It was decided to convey to Mrs Riddell the branch’s deep sympathy in the great loss she had sustained in the death of her husband, Mr W. O. Riddell, of Longbush. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses.
