MEETING IN MASTERTON. The opening meeting of the Masterton W.C.T.U. for the year was addressed by the Rev. F. J. Parker. Miss Tankersley, on behalf of the meeting, thanked the speaker for his inspiring message. Several apologies were received for absence. The hostesses, Mrs N. Miller and Miss Tankersley received the thanks of the meeting. The temperance fact reads as follows: Abstinence from alcoholic drinks is not a form of self denial; it is the door to the highest form of personal liberty, self control.” Mrs H. Speight extended an invitation to her home for the Frances Willard Day, February 22 being decided on as the more suitable day. The meeting terminated with the benediction. Officers and members attended the meeting at Carterton which was addressed by Mrs Peryman and Miss E. Appleby. It was stated that out of the total of 28 departments in the world’s W.C.T.U., 25 were operating in the New Zealand organisation. It was reported that work at the Centennial Exhibition stall was being very faithfully maintained by the city members mainly, no less than 11,000 leaflets havingbeen given out. What was described by members as a deplorable fact was that for the first time in. 30 years, wet canteens were allowed in military camps. The meeting terminated with afternoon tea.
