GREYTOWN

TRUST LANDS TRUST MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Trust Lands Trustees was held on Thursday evening. There were present Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman). W. H. Day, F. Dennes, H. J. Nightingale, B. Kiernan (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. Walden and J. W. Barnard. The Forestry Department wrote stating that they could not supply young pine trees. The Trust solicitors were instructed to take action to collect overdue rents. A letter of thanks was received from the local Plunket Society for a grant made. The Borough Council wrote stating that it would set back the fence lino at Papawai-Wood Street corner. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs R. J. McKinnon with their little son, are on a visit to Wairarapa, and are staying with Mrs J. F. Wallis, at Greytown. Mr McKinnon is on the staff of the North Auckland Electric Power Board. Mrs Horne, senr. of Christchurch, is at present spending a holiday with her daughter, Mrs George Robinson, Main Street. Greytown. Centennial Gathering. Erstwhile residents of Greytown have already commenced to arrive in town for the Centennial celebrations, and the gathering of old settlers will be a feature of the various functions. The president of the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association has been written to asking if a massed parade of returned men could be organised, which, with the appearance of the Trentham Military Band, might influence the recruiting movement. The Wairarapa Automobile Association has agreed to arrange for cars to convey those attending the pioneers’ luncheon to the Memorial Park to witness the pageant. Girl Guides and Boy Scouts are to have a large representation in lhe massed parade and will come from all parts of the district. Among the donations received by the organiser is a cheque for £2s 2s from the P.I. and Loan Association. All donations carry a Government subsidy.
