CRICKET
WELLINGTON CHAMPTONSHIPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association!) WELLINGTON. This Day. Wickets wore on the soft side after rain in the morning when the four leading teams started on Saturday afternoon to play off for the Wellington Cricket Association's senior championship. Pitches were drying under the action of a strong snn, and this allowed bowlers to get spin on the ball with the result that some rich harvests of wickets were reaped. Low scoring marked the game between Kilbirnie, the leading team, and Midland, who are fourth on the list. Midland had first strike, but could only total 114. Modest as was this total, the Kilbirnie team could only respond with 57. This is the lowest total Kilbirnie has ever been dismissed for in the senior competition. At call of time Midland had scored 46 for two wickets. Kilbirnie were without the services of J. Ashenden and O. L. Wrigley. Fast scoring by most of the earlier batsmen gave Wellington the handy total of 292 in its first innings pgainst Institute at Kelburn Park. Institute opened at G p.m., and at stumps had scored 38 for the loss of one wicket.
Karori disposed of University for 131. Karori. at stumps, had 171 runs on for the loss of five wickets. Hutt ran up 195 against Wellington College Old Boys. J. R. Capstick playing a finished innings for 92. Old Boys replied with 62 for two wickets.
IN OTHER CENTRES. Auckland.—The first round of the senior cricket championship was completed on Saturday. Middlemore, 121 for seven declared (L. Vivian 77) beat Grafton, 100 and 69 for three. Parnell. 266 for six (Whitelaw 140) boat Pon-sonby-Balmoral, 260. University 148 for nine, beat Y.M.C.A.. 144. North Shore. 213 (Edmonds GO. McArthur 61) boat Edcri. 160. Christchurch. — The first series in the second round of the senior cricket competition started on Saturday. Old Collegians, 216 (Walter 105), met East Chrislchni'ch, 51 for throe wickets. Riecarlon, 85, met T.aneastor Park. 8-1 for five wickets (Bolltnny 50 not. out). West Christchurch 105 (Donnelly 54) met Sydenham, 70 for loin' wickets. Old Boys, 200 (Menzies 57), mol St Albans 49 for two wickets. Dunedin.— Carisbrook A. 300 (Maloney 64) beat Kaikoi-ai. i 95 and six for 143 (Stewart not, out 71). Albion. 228 and 53, beat Carisbrook B, 164 and one for 24. Grange, 292, beat University. 128 and three for 77. Old Boys. 120 and 164 boat Dunedin. 85 and eight for 123.
