ALFREDTON

FAMILY GATHERING ("Times-Age” Special.) A happy family gathering took place at Hillside, Saunder’s Road, Alfredton, recently, when Mrs W. S. Algie, Palmerston North, gave an “at home” for her family. The choosing of her old home for the occasion (now occupied by a daughter-in-law, Mrs W. Algie) was a happy thought, for it revived memories of early days for this highly-esteemed pioneer of the Wairarapa and childhood memories ol happy days spent among the bush-clad hills, for the family. There was an attendance of 54 and a photographer was kept busy during the afternoon taking family groups and "shots” of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, for there were 26 of the former and seven of the latter present.

Sons present ' were Messrs Colin Algie (Pahiatua) and Walter (Linton), and daughters were Mesdames H. Skeet (Masterton) and T. Saunders (Palmerston North). Mrs Algie w?.s predeceased by her husband some six years ago, and she lost one son, Robert, in the Great War. Two other sons, Messrs John and William Algie, have since died, and one daughter( Mrs S. Edmonds. Mrs Algie is particularly hale and hearty, despite her years, and is now diverting her energies from knitting for the family to making woollen comforts for the soldiers, for she claims to know something of their requirements, as all her sons saw service in 1914-1918. Mrs R. C. Hornblow, Foxton, is a granddaughter of Mrs Algie.
