FEATHERSTON

PLUNKET SOCIETY MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age" Special.) At. the monthly meeting of the local branch of the Plunket Society there were present Mesdames Donald (in chair), J. G. McKenzie, Arch Clark, R. S. Keenan, and J. A. Halpin. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames G. E. Yule, H. R. Bloxam, M. C. Turner, G. S. Sharp and A. R. Robbins.

Mrs McKenzie extended a welcome to Mrs Donald, who again occupied the chair after six months' leave of absence.

The following financial report was submitted: Receipts since last meeting £4 4s 9d; cash in Bank of New Zealand and P. 0.5.8. £7OB 3s lid.

Accounts amounting to £1 Ils were passed for payment. Mrs Donald congratulated the committee on the excellent work done in furnishing the society’s rooms. Gorse Fire. The Fire Brigade received a call yesterday afternoon to Underhill Road where a gorse fire got out of control and was endangering house property. The fire was quickly extinguished by means of bucket pumps. Personal. The Rev J. T. and Mrs Holland and daughter have returned from a holiday spent at the seaside. Renovation of School. The Primary School has been renovated outside by painting, and trees are being felled to make room for the new building. Convalescent Home for Soldiers. Mrs Charles Elgar has placed her home, Fernside, Featherston, at the disposal of the Red Cross Society as a convalescent home for returned officers and men for the duration of the war. Mrs Elgar desires that the home shall be conducted by the Red Cress Society under the Health Department. The offer has been gratefully accepted and advantage will be taken of it as circumstances arise.
