The fortnightly meeting of the M.U. Odd Fellows’ Lodge was held last evening, Bro S. Morriss, N.G., presiding over a large attendance of members. Sick pay amounting to £2 6s 8d was passed for payment. It was decided to advise the Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge that the postponed ritual contest would be held on March 12. The District Grand Lodge officers and members of the management committee made their, annual official visit to the lodge. Bro S. Morriss extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. The District Grand Master, after returning thanks for the warm welcome; gave a brief resume of the progress for the past year. Other speakers were Bros A. J. B. Foote, D.D.G.U.. and J. S. Stewart, P.D.G.U.. arid Sister E. Macfarlane, P.D.G.M. Bro A. H. Herbert, P.G.U.. thanked; the officers for their visit and the information imparted. He assured then that their visit was fully appreciated. Supper, dispensed by the members brought the meeting to a close. Late Mr R. P. A. Thomasen. The late Mr Rasmus Peder Andreas Thomasen was born on July 6, 1877 at Wai Waka. He was educated at the Eketahuna Public School. He went to ALea with his foster parents (the late Mr and Mrs Niel Pedersen) in 1898. He later took up a bush farm being an excellent bushman. He and his fostei brother, Mr J. P. Petersen, some 35 years ago purchased land which they farmed together till 1917 when the partnership was dissolved. Mr Thomasen farmed the property successfully up till the time of his death. He entered camp early in 1917 but a severe illness prevented him from serving oversea. He was a foundation member of the Tararua Rifle Club, holding all offices. He was a member of the Nireaha Athletic Club. School Committee (being chairman for some 8 years),
director of the Nireaha Stores, and during the Great Wai- he was active in patriotic movements. He was a member of the New Zealand'Farmers' Union for. 30 years and had been secretary and president of the Nireaha subbranch. At the time of his death he was chairman of the Nireaha branch of the National Party, chairman of the Evacuation Committee, patron of the Nireaha Football Club, patron of the Bush Rifle Association, patron of the Nireaha Miniature Rifle Club and a member of the Domain Board. In August. 1921, he married Miss Winifred Hawkins, second daughter of Mrs and
the late Mr Frank Hawkins, of Ka ! pororo. Beside a wife, son and daughter. he leaves three brothers and one sister. The advice and sound judgment of the deceased was always at the disposal of the settlers of the district. Personal. Miss E. Stevens. Greytown. is a guesl at Liverpool House.
