DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION
MR N. T. LAMBOURNE RETIRING.

The Public Service Commissioner announced today that the Director of Education, Mr N. T. lambourne ceases active duty at the end of the month and goes on three months’ leave before retiring. Mr Lambourne graduated at Auckland in 1910 and held positions under the Auckland Education Board. Later he became Vice-Principal of the Auckland Training College, an inspector at Auckland, and then Senior Inspector in the Wanganui district. He was appointed Chief Inspector of Primary Schools in 1931 and became Director of Education in 1933, on the retirement of Mr T. B. Strong. He was sent abroad by the Government in 1935 on a six months' tour embracing educational developments in Australia, Britain, Denmark. Canada and the United States. He received the 1.5.0. in the Coronation Honours in 1937. Dr Beeby will be Acting-Director while Mr Lambourne is on final leave.
