ADDITIONAL BENEFITS IN BRITAIN ON BASIS OF MEANS TEST, AND UNDER CONTRIBUTORY SCHEME. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) RUGBY, January 23. As a result of the consideration the Government has been giving to old age pensions, the Chancellor of the exchequer (Sir John Simon) outlined in the House of Commons a plan for supplementary pensions, payable through the Post Office to those who, on an investigation of their household, means, were found to require them. The plan also envisages an enlargement of the benefits of the contributory pensions scheme to include wives and insured women over sixty. Sir J. Simon mentioned that while there were nearly three million old age pensioners, the latest information showed that about 275,000 had satisfied the public assistance authorities of their need for additional relief.
