Tennis of a high standard was seen at the second day's play in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s North Island tournament. The outstanding surprise was the defeat of the titleholder. P. Hawksworth (Masterton), by R. McKenzie, a Wellington junior, 1-6. 8-6. 6-4. McKenzie also won his game in the boys’ championship section. beating B. Graham (Gisborne). Other close cames in the men’s singles were between Morrison and Charters, and Roach and Livingstone (Waikato). The weather was again fine and hot, and the courts very fast.
