OBITUARY
MRS W. T. GRUNDY
The many friends of Mrs W. T. Grundy will regret to hear of her death, which occurred yesterday at the age of 87 years. The late Mrs Grundy had the misfortune about five weeks ago to fall and break one of her legs, but until then was remarkably active for her age. She was born in Birmingham and her marriage took place in England in 1377. With her husband, she proceeded to Queensland, where she spent a year before coming to New Zealand. Mr Grundy then received an appointment at the Mount Cook School. Wellington, and a few months later came to Masterton to take up a position of first head teacher of the State School. In 1882 Mr Grundy was appointed headmaster of the new Mastertoil Central School, a position he held for seven years before returning to Wellington as headmaster of the Clyde Quay School. He retired from teaching duties in 1915 and for two years subsequently was engaged as an inspector of primary schools. After leaving the service of the Department on superannuation, he and Mrs Grundy had resided in Wellington and Masterton. Mrs Grundy had lived here ever since the death of her daughter, Miss Grundy, in 1937. Mrs Grundy, whose husband predeceased her in October, 1938. is survived by a daughter, Mrs W. G. Lamb, Masterton. two grandchildi en, Mrs Joseph Perry and Mr S. G. Lamb and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be a private one, taking place al. the Crematorium. Karori.
