Fils de Vaals Succeeds. The three-year-olds Fils de Vaals. Beau Repaire, and Gladynev, filled the places in a great finish in the Summer Cup at Auckland yesterday. All came home in great style, and Fils de Vaals, who ran into a handy position at the five-furlong post, just held off Beau Repaire, who made a gallant bid on the rails. Gladynev was slightly better placed in running that the other pair, and he held on splendidly when the pressure was applied. Homily, who was forced to cover a good deal of ground on the outside, ran one of her best races. Baran also registered a pleasing performance for fifth, after getting away badly with Balinavar, and being last just over half a mile from home. It looked as' if he would have been very difficult to beat with an even getaway. Spartan and Kathbella were responsible for most of the pace, but they failed to run on in the straight, where Paddy the Rip also weakened, after being one of the leaders. Our Jean failed to get a position early, and was never dangerous. King Rey was third at the half-mile, but could not go on under his weight.
