SWEDES CALLED UP
TRAINING UNDER WINTER CONDITIONS. The Swedish Government, states a radio message from Daventry, is calling to the colours number of men living in the centre of the country. The inen are being called up so that they can receive training under winter conditions. AIR RAID DEATHS TEN RUSSIAN PLANES SHOT DOWN. SOVIET CLAIMS SUCCESSES. LONDON, December 25. A message states that in today's Russian air raids 13 bombs were dropped on Porvoo (otherwise Borga, near Helsinki) killing nine and wounding 20. Helsinki reports that 10 Russian planes were brought down, including three over Helsinki, which was raided continuously for five hours. A Moscow communique states: “We seriously defeated the Finns in the Suomussalmi (central) sector, occupying their fortified positions. We routed two battalions in the Illomantsi area, killing many. Our air force reconnoitred. shooting down six. Finnish planes.” ARREST DENIED LEADER OF PUPPET GOVERNMENT. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LENINGRAD, December 25. It is denied that M Kussinen, leader of the Russian puppet Government at Terijoki, has been arrested.
