SIX PLANES BROUGHT DOWN

Helsinki and Other Centres Raided BIGGEST AIR OPERATIONS OF WAR The raids over Finnish towns on Christmas Day were the heaviest since the outbreak of the war. Reports as to the. actual number of planes engaged are conflicting, but it is known that at least six raiders were brought down. There were two raids on Helsinki, each lasting two hours. Two railway junctions, one 45 miles north of Helsinki and the other 75 miles to the north-east, were also raided, but no details of the casualties were available. The raid on Viborg lasted live hours. The latest Russian war communique makes no reference to the Finnish penetration into Soviet territory at a point 120 miles north of Lake Ladoga, but the communique does not claim any advances. —By radio.
