WIIPURI BOMBARDED
PALL OF SMOKE COVERS TOWN. GUNS 25 MILES AWAY. (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, December 26. The Wiipuri correspondent of the British United Press says Russian “Big Berthas,” twenty-five miles distant, bombarded Wiipuri all night, excavating craters twelve feet across and six feet deep. A pall of smoke from burning buildings envelops the town, which is in a constant state of air raid alarm. CAPITAL ESCAPES NO BOMBS DROPPED FROM SIX PLANES. REPORTED RUSSIAN LOSSES. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) HELSINKI, December 26. Four Russian planes are reported to have been shot down at Imatra. Six bombers flew over the capital but no bombs were dropped. FINNISH CATHOLICS POPE SENDS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) VATICAN CITY, December 26. It is officially announced that the Pope has sent financial help to needy Finnish Catholics.
