CARTERTON GUN CLUB

CHRISTMAS SHOOT SUCCESSFUL MEETING AT WEEKEND. WINNERS OF PRIZES. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a large gathering of shooters present on the Carterton Racecourse at the weekend when the Carterton Gun Club held its Christmas shoot. Competitors were present from all parts of the Wairarapa as well as Lower Hutt, Petone, and Dannevirke. Four matches of nine birds each were fired, and some excellent shooting was shown. The secretary, Mr J. V. Gustofson. assisted by an energetic committee, controlled the gathering in a very creditable way. Mr J. McKnight managed the trap well and was complimented on his work by the shooters. The day was perfect for shooting. The club are indebted to the donors of prizes, which included quarters of lamb, geese, hampers, cigarettes, boxes of chocolates and tins of biscuits. The following were the prize-win-ners: — First match: Five tied with a possible each and divided the sweepstake and drew for the positions in connection with the Christmas prizes. They were: J. Minehan. Petone (seven birds with first barrel and 2 with second), I of a lamb. 1; H. Fenwick. South Featherston (hamper), 2; H. Newman, Petone (50 cigarettes), 3; R. Walker, Carterton (tin of biscuits), 4; B. Lipinski, Carterton (box of chocolates), 5. There were 27 competitors. Second match: H. Fenwick (South Featherston), ' of a lamb, 1: G. Brotherton (Masterton), hamper, 2; W. Moroney (Carterton), 50 cigarettes, 3; Jim McKenzie (Masterton), 50 cigarettes, 4; G. Prussing (Martinborough), tin of biscuits, 5; L. Smith (Matarawa), box of chocolates, 6. All shot the possible (9 birds). 29 competed. . Third match: Newman Junr. (Lower Hutt), hamper, 1; G. Brotherton (Masterton), goose, 2; J. McKenzie (Masterton), hamper, 3. These were the only ones to break all nine “clays.” Five shooters lost one bird. Twentyeight competed. Fourth match: W. Moroney (Carterton), and J. McKenzie (Masterton), tied with 9 breaks each and divided first and second prizes; J. Crawford (Dalefield), .1 of a lamb, 3; J. Gallagher (Masterton), hamper, 4; R. Walker (Carterton), hamper. 5; Flux Junr. (Petone), hamper, 6; E, Flux Senr. (Petone). hamper, 7; R. Fuge (Kaiwaiwai), S; M. Kiddie (Carterton), 9.
