PLUNKET SHIELD SURPRISE
CANTERBURY TEAM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 16. A surprise in the selection of the Plunket Shield team to represent Canterbury against Otago in Christchurch next Saturday is that of R. C. Webb, solicitor, who was drafted to Ngaruawahia Camp as a soldier of the special force, as wicket-keeper. Webb, who is still in his earlj’ twenties, played for Canterbury in shield games last season and the season before, taking the place vacated by C. K. Jackman when he went to Auckland on transfer. A sound bat as well as an elert and reliable 'keeper, Webb had a club average last season of 36.71. In Plunket Shield games his top. score was 40 against Otago. The team to play Otago is: J. L. Kerr. R. E. J. Menzies, M. P. Donnelly, W. McD. Anderson, F. P. O'Brien, W. A. Hadlee. H. Davis, I. B. Cromb, A. W. Roberts. D. N. Mcßae, R. C. Webb. V. James, twelfth man. This team, when the Otago match is concluded,. will travel to the North Island, with the exception that B. C. Harbidge (Old Boys) replaces Webb against Wellington.
