CHILDREN’S HOME

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the management committee of the Methodist Children’s Home was held at the Home when Mr J. H. Handyside presided. Other Board members present were Mesdames F. C. Daniell. F. J. Parker, Messrs F. E. Wells, W. H. Judd, J. H. Conly, J. A. Wellington, the Rev F. J. Parker, and the Secretary-Manager, Mr W. R. Nicol. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs J. Cocker, Mrs J. Elliott, Miss Burton, Dr Prior and Mr G. F. Whitlock. Leave of absence was granted to the Matron. It was reported that the annual appeal had been distributed and the hope was expressed that it would be well supported. Correspondence was dealt with concerning maintenance, and the placing of children into private homes for the Christmas and school holidays. Homes are still wanted for about another twelve children. Accounts amounting to £72 14s 5d were passed for payment. Consideration was given to the possible extension of the dining room, and this work, if carried out, will probably be done over the vacation period. A number of the children’s school reports were submitted for perusal, and it was found that in most cases the children were doing very good work. The next meeting will be held at the Home on Monday, February 12, 1940.
