* DEATH SENTENCES IN BRITAIN. MURDERS IN COVENTRY EXPLOSION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, December 14. For the first time since the Irish Republican Army began its outrages terrorists have been sentenced to death. Peter Barnes. 32, and James Richards. 29, were sentenced to death for murder in the Coventry explosion on October 6. Joseph Hewitt, his wife and mother-in-law were found not guilty, but face another indictment. The prosecuting counsel declared that the paymaster in this case might not be in Dublin, but might be further afield.
