PONGAROA
t FARMERS’ UNION MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) Despite exceptionally busy times on the farm there was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Pongaroa branch of the Farmers’ Union, held in St Andrew’s Hall, Pongaroa, the President, Mr J. W. Murray, presiding. It was decided, owing to the extra expense involved, to discontinue in the meantime the practice of sending individual notices of the monthly meetings to all members and the provincial secretary is to be asked to circularise all members to this effect, pointing out that the meetings will continue to be held on the first Tuesday in the month, as in the past. Replying to Mr D. R. Hall, the chairman stated that at present there was no organiser working this district, Mr Luke having been transferred to Wairoa. Mr Hall considered that there was urgent need of an organiser in this district. Many orders had matured and it was urgently required that they should be renewed as soon as possible. Ho suggested that the provincial secretary be communicated with to find out what was the position and what was being done in the matter. He also thought that order forms could be sent to members to complete and return to the provincial secretary. If a copy of all earmarks and cattle brands in the district was lodged with some accessible authority in the important centres of outlying districts it would be of considerable assistance to farmer? in identifying strange stock, was the opinion of the meeting and it was decided to draft a remit on these lines and send it on to the S.H.B. Provincial Executive. The chairman mentioned that Mr Holden, fields instructor, had commenced his duties in the district and the secretary was instructed to invite Mr Holden to attend their monthly meetings when and as often as possible. Representatives of the PongaroaPukctoi Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union are to be invited to attend the next meeting to discuss the
progress that has already been made in connection with the establishment of a rest room in Pongaroa. It was decided that the next ordinary meeting be held on the first Tuesday in February, instead of January, owing to the proximity of the Christmas holidays. At the conclusion of business the meeting adjourned for supper.
