GREYTOWN
SECONDARY SCHOOL ANNUAL PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The pupils of the secondary department of the Greytown School held their "breaking up party” in the Odd Fellows’ Hall last evening. There was a large attendance of parents and old pupils. At the supper interval Master Alan Carter, senior prefect, on behalf of the pupils presented a fountain pen and pencil to Mr J. D. McFarlane (Science Master), who is leaving to join the staff of the Horowhenua College. The Headmaster (Mr S. C. Shedden) expressed his thanks to Mi- McFarlane for his services to the Greytown School. Mr H. G. Carter, the chairman of the committee, congratulated Mr McFarlane on his new appointment. Mr G. S. Maloney also wished the guest of the evening “good luck” and thanked him for his loyal co-operation. In returning thanks for the gift Mr McFarlane said he was sorry, to leave his pupils. His six years in Greytown had been happy ones. The programme was as follows: — Highland dances, Misses Pat Sugrue and Mary Carter, Miss Josie Dennes played the accompaniments; mouth organ solos, C. Field and M. Rees; pianoforte solos, Miss Awa Feast. The competition winners were Mrs Shedden, Mrs Anker, Mr B. McKenzie and K. Stuart. The Monte Carlo winners were Miss Askew and Mr M. Whimp. The lucky spot winners were Miss Joan Feast and Mr B. O’Neale. The music for the dancing was played by Miss B. Shedden, Mrs H. G. Carter and Master A. Carter. The gathering closed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.

BOOTH CUP MATCH. The following will represent Greytown in a Booth Cup match against the Park Club on Saturday:-— At the Park: Rees, Brown, Bunny, Carter; Burns, Connolly, Curtis, McLeod. At Greytown: Kilgour, Burden, Shedden, Higgison; Brunton. Day, Dennes, Kenning.
FIRE BRIGADE
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Fire Station on Monday evening when Superintendent J. Wood presided over a full attendance of members. Accounts passed for payment included the cost of installing the siren. £24. Mr C. Knight was proposed as a new member. It was decided not to hold a practice during Christmas week. At the close of the meeting the firemen were entertained at supper by the officers. Personal. Mr H. C. Trotman was accorded a vote of thanks for his donation of the cost of renovating the stairway. Rainfall During Storm. Over three inches of rain were registered in Greytown during the recent storm —161 points on Monday and 155 points on Tuesday.
