METHODIST CHURCH

SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY. AT HOME OF MR & MRS J. M. JAMES. Favoured with beautiful weather on Saturday afternoon the new venture of the trustees of the Methodist Church in Masterton to hold a country Garden Party for both town and country members of the circuit, was a decided success. The beautiful grounds at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. M. James, at Wangaehu were very graciously given for the purposes of the gathering and proved an ideal setting for such an outing, the rose gardens in particular being in full bloom and presenting a marvellous picture of l?eauty against the background of lovely trees and shrubbery. There was a very large attendance, and transport and other arrangements worked without a hitch, a tribute to the splendid organisation of members of the Trust Board. Clock golf, chain stepping, dart throwing, and other competitions kept everyone happily amused and busy, while the various stalls, cake, produce, meat, sweets, ice cream and drinks, all did good business and were rapidly cleared of their contents. The afternoon tea arrangements under the supervision of Mrs F. J. Parker, worked very satisfactorily, afternoon tea being served on the lawn under the shade of the trees. At a suitable time in the late afternoon the visitors gathered on the steps of the residence, when the Rev Fred J. Parker expressed the appreciation of the trustees, and of the church people generally to Mr and Mrs James for their kindly action and generous hospitality in making their grounds and home available for the party. The singing of "For they are Jolly Good Fellows” and the giving of cheers for the host and hostess, followed by a vote of thanks from the Trustees to the ladies who had assisted, brought the gathering to a close. GIFT SUGGESTIONS. Dainty and useful Toilet Articles are always acceptable. A large assortment of Perfumes, Toilet Brushware, Cosmetics, Soaps, Lavender, Eau de Cologne, Manicure Sets, etc. Everything for the Toilet for lady or gentleman, at Gordon’s Pharmacy.
