CARTERTON

ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH CHILDREN’S ANNIVERSARY SERVICE. (“Times-Age" Special.) The children’s anniversary service was held in St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Carterton, yesterday morning, and was well attended. The service was conducted by the Rev W. J. Couling, who delivered an excellent address to the children. BOWLING TOURNAMENT WAIRARAPA ENTRIES. Among those who have entered for the Centennial National Bowling Championship, which will open in Wellington on January 8 are the following members of Wairarapa clubs: — Singles, W. C. M. Sorensen (Carterton), A. B. Fuge (Featherston); V. S. McLeod (Greytown), H. Rolls (Featherston). Pairs, A. B. Fuge and H. Rolls (Featherston), G. W. Hart and W. C. M. Sorensen (Carterton), S. C. Shedden and H. G. Carter (Greytown), F. Dennes and N. S. McLeod (Greytown); W. Christian and W. M. Hendry (Masterton).

NORFOLK ROAD SEALING OPERATIONS. Good progress is being made by the Wairarapa South County workmen with the sealing of Norfolk Road. There are a few chains yet to be completed. When this road is finished other tar sealing operations will be carried out, including wok at Belvedere. Personal Items. Mr Lambert Smith, of Auckland, who has been visiting Carterton, has returned home. Mr Fred Barry, who was in business in Carterton many years ago, was a member of Terrace End bowling team which visited Carterton on Saturday. Swimming Baths. The Carterton swimming baths were opened to the public on Saturday last. Despite counter attractions, many swimmers were present, including a large number of children. Mr H. H. L. Meyrick, who was appointed caretaker, has found that it is impossible for him to carry out the duties of the .position. Sharp Earthquake. A sharp earthquake was felt in Carterton just before seven o’clock yesterday morning. It was not severe enough to do any damage. Dalefield School. The Dalefield School children are to be entertained at the annual Christmas Tree gathering in the Dalefield Hall on Wednesday evening. The breaking up of the school for the summer vacation will take place this week. Calf Club Competitions. The Wairarapa Group of the Girls and Boys’ Agricultural Club will hold its championship competitions on the Showgrounds, Carterton, tomorrow, commencing at 10 o’clock. Stock will be exhibited by children from Pahiatua to Martinborough.
