GREYTOWN
SCHOOL CONCERT ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Town Hall was packed when the pupils of the Greytown District High School presented a very enjoyable concert. The programme was opened with the singing of the National Anthem and the New Zealand National Anthem by the pupils. The programme was as follows: —Primers 3 and 4, songs and playette, “The Little Red Hen;’’ secondary girls, folk dances; Std. lb, four poems about music; Stds. la and 2b, five songs; Stds, 4, 5 and 6 girls, folk dances; Std. 6 and secondary pupils, playette, “Simple Simon;’’ Stds, 3a and 4b, six songs; Stds. 2, 7 and 3, folk dances; Std. 6, songs, “Bergerette,” “The Merry Peasant,” choral verse, “Dick Turpin;” secondary, songs, "Men of Harlech,” “Flow Gently Sweet Afton,” “Killarney,” “Juanita,” “Summer and Winter;” Stds. 4a and sb. mouth organ items; Stds. 3a and 4b, playette in verse, “King John;” Std. 6 and secondary, playette, "The Princess and the Woodcutter;” Stds. 4a 7 and sb, songs; secondary pupils, choral verses; Std. 6 and secondary pupils, three songs. The chairman of the committee (Mr H. G. Carter) expressed thanks to the headmaster (Mr S. Shedden) and his staff for the trouble they had taken in staging the concert and congratulated the pupils on their efforts. Mr Carter presented Master L. Brabender with his Higher Leaving School Certificate and congratulated him on receiving a position in a State Department. The receipts for the concert amounted to £33.
BOWLING PROGRESSIVE PAIRS TOURNEY. The Greytown Club held a progressive pairs tournament during the weekend. The last game was stopped by rain. The winners were:—Skips, N. McLeod; leads, A Thompson. (Carterton). Advice has been received that the Upper Hutt Club expect the Greytown players to visit them about the middle of January. Girl Guides. Due to the generosity of a supporter the members of the Greytown Company of Girl Guides are to be provided with a free trip to the Exhibition on Tuesday, ■ December 19. Welcome P.ain. ' Rain commenced to fall on Sunday afternoon and the downpour in the evening was very heavy. It is welcomed by owners of gardens and orchards as well as the farmer. Earthquake on Sunday Morning. An earthquake was felt in Greytown a few minutes before 7 o’clock on Sunday morning. Although there was a loud rumbling noise the shake was light. Musical Recital. A very enjoyable musical recital was given at the residence of Mrs T. Gold, Main Street, Greytown, on Saturday afternoon. Pianoforte solos and duets were given by all the pupils of Mrs Gold. Mrs Gold sang and Miss Josie Dennes gave a musical monologue and a recitation. Mrs Gold entertained the mothers and pupils to afternoon tea. Miss Josie Dennes, in a neat little speech, presented Mrs Gold with a Christmas gift frofn the pupils. Christmas Cheer for Buchanan Home. The cake stall held in the Crown Theatre by the Ladies’ Guild of the Presbyterian Church resulted in £l5 being taken. This is to be used for Christmas cheer for the inmates of the Buchanan Home.
