MINES & U-BOATS
UNDER NAVAL CONTROL MEASURES PERFECTED BY ADMIRALTY. ALL ENEMY EFFORTS BEING MET. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON December 8. Admiralty spokesman, dealing with naval aspects of the war, said the authorities would soon expect to have all channels swept clear of mines daily, and more often if necessary. “We have got the Üboats’ measure,” he said, “and will continue to control them. The Germans may start a more intensive submarine campaign, but we are prepared to meet It. “All naval losses are being made known immediately, because we arc strong enough not to fear the consequences of the knowledge reaching the enemy.” Referring to the Asdic system of Üboat detection, the spokesman said: “The Admiralty has been working to perfect this for seventeen years, and as a result two destroyers are sufficient to detect a submarine by Asdic, whereas it took twelve in the last war. No other country has Asdic.”
