GREYTOWN

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held last evening. There were present H. G. Carter (chairman). F. Dennes (treasurer), J. Herod, G. Robinson. J. Morison. W. G. K. Wiggins and Mrs Knell (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from W. Grigg and H. C. Trotman. The headmaster (Mr S. C. Shedden) reported the roll numbers to be: Primary 307, Secondary 32. The vocational guidance officers. Mi' A. A. Kirk and Miss Jull would visit the school on Friday and would give advice as to suitable careers for pupils. Parents would also have the opportunity of discussing with the headmaster courses to be taken by' secondary pupils next year. The dental department asked for the opinion of the local Dental Clinic Committee on the proposal to include children for treatment irrespective of! age when coming from schools not I covered by dental clinics. ; It was pointed out by the chairman that under the present regulations a child could only be treated at the clinic if in the primer classes. It was decided to support the proposal. It was also 1 decided to ask that children reaching the age limit or standard 5, who received no further treatment, should continue to be examined by nurses till they left standard 6, as the committee felt that during this period of about two years there appeared to be a tendency to neglect the teeth. The chairman, secretary and treasurer were authorised to attend to matters in regard to the school during the holidays. T I Personal Items. Corporal A. Hobson, of the permanent forces of the R.N.Z.A., is on a short ■ visit to his parents. Mrs H. Day. McMaster Street, has returned home from a holiday spent in Te Kuiti. Croquet Club. The monthly meeting of the Greytown Croquet Club was held in the Park Pavilion yesterday afternoon. In the absence of the president. Mrs H. G. Carter presided over a good attendance of members. It was decided to start the club competitions immediately. These will commence with doubles, and the draw will be made for the first round this week.
