SCHOOL GARDENS COMPETITION WON BY CLAREVILLE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Clareville School secured the premier award in the school garden competition held in conjunction with the P. and A. Society's annual show. The gardens were judged by Mr L. Robinson, of .Messrs A. Robinson and Sons. Masterton, on November 30. “I have to record a general all round 'improvement in the gardens judged,” stated Mr Robinson. "It is to be regretted, however, that more schools do not avail themselves of the generous prizes given in this competition.” The following are the awards:— Best all-round school garden: Clareville, 89 points, 1; Gladstone, 78 points. 2; South Featherston, 76 points, 3. Best vegetable or farm plot at each school: Gladstone: Charlie Haeata and Sam Reiri. 1; Peggy Hulana and Helen Haeata, 2; F. E. Hadfield and Jane Namana, 3. Clareville: Leslie Rzoska. 1; William Hannah, 2; William Morris, 3. South Featherston: John Simmonds and David Radcliffe, 1; Bobby Burt and James Thomson, 2; Clive Thorne and Trevor Snell, 3. Best flower plot: Clareville school: Coral Bishop. 1; Gloria Kempton, 2: Melva Nicholls and Barbara Reid. 3. Champion individual plot: Charlie Haeata and Sam Reiri (Gladstone). 87 points, 1: Leslie Rzoska (Clareville). 85 points, 2. ' BOWLING CHAMPION GAMES. The following games have been played in the club championships:-— Singles: Barr defeated Kilmister. 16/13; Sorensen beat Callender. 18/12; G. Hart beat Newbould. This was an exceptionally even game and on the 21st end the score was 14 all. A further end was played Hart winning by one, making the score 15/14. A Thompson beat Stent, 20/13; Barber beat J. G. Stevens, 1:1/17. Progressive pairs: Boyne and Larsen (s) beat Kilmister and Riggs (s), 30.16. The second round of the champion pairs will be drawn tonight. LATE MR B, LUMLEY FUNERAL AT CLARYVILLE. ‘ I The funeral of the late Benjamin Lumley took place yesterday afternoon at the Clareville Cemetery, the cortege being a large one. Bany beautiful wreaths were sent including one each from Messrs H. B. Thomas and Co. (Masterton), as well as Messrs C. S. Ball, W. C. Deller, J. Gorman, W. Thurston (Longwood) and G. Rabbitts, all very close friends of the deceased. Many telegrams, cards and letters of sympathy weie received by the wife and daughter of the late Mr 1 Lumley. The service at the graveside 1 was conducted by the Rev. W. J. Couling, of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian 1 Church. The pall-bearers were Mes- ’ srs H. Pointon, B. Archer, J. Leach. 1 R. J. Grimmer, Maxwell and Hill. ( ORDER OF DRUIDS I 1 MEETING OF TOTARA LODGE. j 1 The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids was held last evening, A.D. Bro. H. Torrey presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors from sister lodges. A vote of condolence was passed to Bro. C. E. Blake, of Waitara, in the death of his father. It was reported that the agreement f between the Friendly Societies Court- < cil and the Wairarapa Hospital Board ] for the treatment of outdoor patients ; was now in operation. i The District President. Bro. A. Stret- ( ton, installed the newly-elected offi.- t cers, after which they returned thanks | for the honour bestowed upon them. , The District President referred in < eulogistic terms of the services rendered to the lodge and the Order by P.A. Sister R. Brazendale, and he asked the sister to accept a P.A. jewel. The recipient suitably replied. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £35 5s were passed for payment. J The death occurred at the Masterton ’ Hospital today of Mrs Kate Pay, wife of Mr Albert Charles Pay, of Carter- f ton, at the age of 59 years. The deceased was a well known and highlyrespected resident of the district and her death will be deeply regretted by a . wide circle of friends.
