DOMINION PILOTS
FIRST DRAFT TO LEAVE SOON. SERVICE WITH R.A.F. The departure soon from New Zealand of the first draft of Air Force pilots to go overseas since the outbreak of the war was announced on Saturday by die Minister of Defence. Mr Jones. 'liie draft will contain pilots who have completed their air training and gained their wings at Wigram. Upon arrival in England they will serve with the Royal Air Force. These men passed out of Wigram recently, and are at present on leave before their departure in the next few days. The Minister expressed regret that, for obvious reasons, it was not. possible to mark the actual departure of the men by a suitable ceremony. Though the draft was a small one. the departure was of special significance because they would be the first draft of New Zealanders to leave for overseas service since the war began.
