WELCOME RAIN
PASTURES BENEFIT. FEED PROBLEM PARTLY SOLVED. Making an extensive tour of the northern and eastern districts in the Wairarapa yesterday 'afternoon a "Times-Age" reporter investigated the results of the drought conditions which the Wairarapa district had been experiencing for some weeks. The heavy falls of warm rain which steadily soaked the parched pastures brought welcome relief to anxious dairy farmers. One dairy farmer stated that the serious position before the fall had been alleviated temporarily, but as usual a good deal more rain would be necessary before the feed problem was solved. Several farmers, he stated, would cut hay for winter feed next week, while others who had taken first cuts would be able to secure second cuts from the hay paddocks as a result of the welcome rain.
Pastures generally yesterday were green, water lying in vast pools in the low-lying areas, the rain which fell some days ago appearing to have done a world of good to the pastures. The dry conditions experienced were particularly favourable to the sheep-far-mers, sheep generally being in perfect condition. The lambing percentages were reported to be very high. The wet weather was not appreciated by shearers. Taking all things into consideration. the rains experienced have been a boon to the farmers.
