WAIRARAPA AYRSHIRE

SOLD TO SOUTHLAND BREEDER. Although Scotland, possibly by reason of its predominant Scottish tradition, is regarded as the home of Ayrshires, in New Zealand there are sometimes occasions when breeders from Southland province find it desirable to introduce proved strains from the North Island. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited’s Stud Stock Department recently shipped an attractive young Ayrshire bull, Greenbank Matchlight, bred at the well known Wairarapa stud of Messrs W. Moore and Son, of Masterton, to Mr H. J. Riddell, of Thornbury, Southland, whose cattle enjoy a high reputation amongst Southern breeders. Greenbank Matchlight is a wellgrown bull of fine breed and conformation. He has a most attractive head full of character and is by that great imported sire Greenan Bondsman. His dam, Ashleigh Park Jewel, is a richlybred cow of great ability as evidenced by her Group Herd Test record of 480 lbs fat in 300 days at 9 years of age. She is a daughter of Ashleigh Park Rosette, a well-known championship winner and producer, and is by Maesgwyn Matchlight, son of another great milker in Maesgwyn Starlight who produced 4101bs fat as a 2-year-old under C.O.R. Test.
