U-BOAT DESTROYED

THIRD FRENCH SUCCESS WITHIN FEW DAYS ATTACK ON CONVOY FOILED. SMART WORK BY CONVERTED CHASER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) PARIS, November 24. France bagged her third submarine in a few days when a 700 ton survey ship, unarmed in peace time, but converted to submarine chasing, foiled a U-boat’s attempt to attack a convoy in the Channel. The survey ship’s lookout saw the track of a torpedo passing 90 feet ahead of the ship’s bow. The torpedo missed, but the track in the moonlight clearly showed the submarine’s position. The French skipper turned his ship round and proceeded full speed ahead along the torpedoes track, at the end of which he dropped a depth charge, and the water boiled up oil to the surface.
