WAR AIMS

AUSTRALIAN LABOUR PARTY STATEMENT BY LEADER. WITH BRITAIN BUT AGAINST SENDING TROOPS AWAY. 3y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Dav. 12.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Mr J. Curtin (Leader of the Opposition) in an outline of the Labour Party’s war policy, declared that the Australian Labour Party was inflexibly behind Britain. It considered that the primary obligation of Australians was to safeguard Australia. It was opposed to conscription and to the despatch of forces overseas. It was opposed to plunging the Commonwealth into exorbitant debts, believing that the war should be financed from the national credit of the people.
