On Saturday morning, in the Odd Fellows’ Hall, the enrolment of the Brownies took place before a number of parents and Guides. Two Commissioners were present. Mrs C. E. Holmes, Provincial Commissioner, and MrS Carne Bidwill, District Commissioner, both of Featherston. The Brownies, in uniform, playing games in their fairy ring round the big mushroom, on which was perched a very realistic owl, made a very attractive sight. With Miss K. Herbert and Miss H. Fraser as Brown Ow| and Tawny Owl respectively, the Brownies played several games in which interest was combined with training in observation. After the enrolment of five of the ' Brownies, the children were told the story of the origin of Brownies by Mrs : Bidwill. : The enrolment of the others was taken by Mrs Holmes; followed by an ; inspection, taken in a novel way. The Brownie Prayer was recited by Kathleen Ryan. 1 Miss Herbert thanked the Commissioners and visitors for their attendance and assistance. In the afternoon the enrolment of Guides was taken. The Guides, about, 30 in number, formed their ranks and 1 later the horseshoe. The '‘colours" were marched on, and the enrolment proceeded. The Guides were in the charge of Miss M. Finnie (Captain) and Miss J. Wilson (Lieutenant).

Mrs C. Holmes, in her address, urged the girls to keep up the standard of the whole movement of Guiding. Each one should do her best to become

strong links in the great chain. AH should be well-prepared for the whole business of living: with the senses keenly alert to the beauties of life. They should also be prepared to meet emergencies.
