MAURICEVILLE COUNTY

MONTHLY MEETING HELD YESTERDAY. NEW COUNCILLOR WELCOMED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held yesterday, the chairman, Mr E. W. Cheetham, presiding. Also present were Councillors- C. Welch, A. Forsberg, A. Gray, D. Bennett and J. H. McDonald. The chairman tendered a cordial welcome to Councillor McDonald upon taking his seat as the newly elected councillor in place of Mr Robert Judd. Mr Cheetham expressed his confidence that Councillor McDonald would heartily co-operate with other councillors in the work of the council in the interests of the general body of ratepayers and that his services would prove very valuable as they had done ■ when he previously served as a councillor for many years. Councillor McDonald thanked the chairman for his remarks, and intimated that he would do his best to' contribute to the welfare of the ; county. The treasurer submitted the financial reports, showing a debit balance of £377 18s 2d, and accounts for ' £286 8s 4d were passed. The treasurer was authorised to pro- ' cure requisite dog collars, etc, for the ’ 1940 season and Mr Myers was re- ' appointed deputy dog registrar for the year. The clerk reported that he had issued a building permit for the Mauriceville Lime Co. with the approval of the building inspector. His action was approved. The balance sheet for the 1938-39 , year was returned from the Audit Department duly audited, and copiesj: would' be printed. The Centennial Celebration Committee requested to know whether it was contemplated to make any alteration in the proposed dates for local cele- : brations. The clerk was instructed to ] notify the committee that the council would co-operate with other bodies.
