TEN THOUSAND PUPILS

ENROLMENTS TO DATE AT CENTRAL SCHOOL. FIRST NAMES ON REGISTERS. It is something of a proud record for a school to have admitted 10,000 children in the course of its existence. This is the admission number of a small boy who was admitted to Central School today. The admissions commenced in 1875 according to the registers, _ but there must have been others admitted before that because the register is obviously not the original one but one showing a recommencement based on an earlier record. No 1 on the original old diary was William McCardle. Number 1 on the new register commenced in 1881 in the existing building was William Cole and Number 10,000 is Warren Loader, so that the ten thousand have actually been admitted to the existing school known as Masterton Central School.
