OBITUARY

MRS D. G. JOHNSTON. (“Times-Age" Special.) Word was received in Carterton last evening of the death of Mrs Mary Lees Johnston wife of Dr D. G. Johnston, of Sumner, Christchurch. She had not been in good health for some considerable time. The late Mrs Johnston was born in Wishaw, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1866. As a young woman she came to New Zealand and was married to Dr Johnston, who was practising his profession in Carterton in the early eighties. The late Mrs Johnston was always willing' when a resident of Carterton to assist any movement connected with the progress of the district. She was highly respected by all she came in contact with. She was at one time present of the Carterton Plunket Society, in which she took a very keen interest. She was also a very able Red Cross worker and was a faithful and regular attendant at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Her whole life until her severe illness a few years since was full of energy. Her death will be deeply regretted by a large circle of friends. Very deep sympathy will be extended to her husband and family. Messrs David Gibb Johnston. Kent Street, Carterton, and John Provan Johnston, of Masterton, are sons, and Mrs J. D. Hutchinson, of Christchurch, a daughter. There are also five grandchildren left. The body was cremated at the Christchurch cemetery.

Feeling reference was made by the Rev W. J. Couling at the evening service of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carterton, to the death of Mrs Johnston, who for many years was a great worker in the interests of the Church.
