SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS

TWELFTH ANNUAL REUNION. GATHERING ON SATURDAY. NIGHT. South African veterans assembled in full force in the Lecture Room, Municipal Building, on Saturday night, when the twelfth annual reunion of the Wairarapa branch of the Association was held. Among those present were Brigadier-General Sir Herbert Hart and a party of veterans from the Hutt Valley. Major S. Fletcher presided. The evening proved a most enjoy.able one. After the observance of one minute’s silence in memory of fallen comrades the following toast list was honoured: "Our Guests,” proposed by the treasurer, Trooper H. M. Boddington, responded to by Staff Sergt.-Major C. Ritzema (Hutt Valley); "Parliament,” Mr George R. Sykes Mr J. Robertson. M.P.; "Army. Navy and Air Forces, (including Territorial)”, the Chairman—Brigadier-General Sir Herbert Hart and Lt.-Colonel J. H. Irving; "Municipal Government,” Mr H. M. Boddington —Councillor William Kemp; “Returned Soldiers’ Association,” Mr R. Barnes —Mr Roy Why born (President of Wairarapa R.S.A.); “Legion of Frontiersmen,” the secretary. Capt. J. V. Dolan, D.S.O.—Lieut. Geo. Johnson; The Press, the Chairman. Much appreciated vocal solos were controbuted by Mr William C. Mann, The president of the association, Major Fletcher, accompanied by members, placed a wreath on the Soldiers’ Monument in the Park during the day.
