There was a good attendance for the 2 final day of the V.R.C. spring meeting - at Flemington. The weather was fine 1 and cool. 1 Prairie Flower created a surprise by ) a fast finish to win the Batman Stakes. , Harmonic Law and Muscari made promising efforts. Dashing Cavalier was ' disappointing. ’ Halifax, who was prominent all the way, beat the fast-finishing Clarify in ■ the Flemington Stakes, Fur Trader be- - ing a fair third. Goldsmith was disap- ■ pointing. Halifax cost 450 guineas as a j yearling and has a win, a second and a , third in three starts, being regarded as a potential Derby winner. 1 High Caste had a brilliant victory in 1 the C. B. Fisher Plate. He was always • well placed and held off a challenge by 1 Landlaw. Mosaic was a moderate third. > Catalogue and Ortelle’s Star were out- ! classed. High Caste has won approximately £15,000 in stakes for his present owner. He will now be rested till 1 the autumn and then return to Mel- ! bourne. His owner, Mr H. E. Tancred. 1 denies that High Caste is to be taken I to America. , Respirator completed a double for ■ his trainer, Jamieson, and the jockey Bartie. by a well-deserved win in the V.R.C. Handicap. The unlucky Maikai for the third successive time was second. and L’Aiglon was a moderate third. International ran a poor race. Grantley made a great effort to re- | peat his Cup day win in the J. A. McI Leod Steeplechase, but was unable to I withstand the challenge of the former | hunter, Collier. Musical David, who set the pace, was a moderate third. Tranquil Star led all the way to register a comfortable win in the Ottawa Stakes. Savaterie and San Jose gave promising performances. The victory gave the rider, M. McCarten, his first success for seven weeks. Geebung made amends for his Melbourne failures by a brilliant win in the Final Handicap, finishing strongly after an exciting end. Aiipapejo and Carpentier ran good races but were outstayed by the winner. Royal Order was a promising fifth. Desert Chief made a poor showing. Results: Batman Stakes, for three-year-olds.
