HOMING PIGEONS
: —4 MASTERTON CLUB. NORTH AND SOUTH RACES. The Maslerton Homing Pigeon Club flew two races recently, one from Helensville in the north, 104 miles airline,- and from Picton in the south. Thirty-two birds were liberated at Helensville, and were flying against a south-westerly head wind for over 10 hours. Only five birds completed the course in race time. The placings for club points were:—D. Steer's "Nondescript." 10 hours 15min 3sccs. 1: C. J. Douglas's “Oliver Twist," 10.18.27. 2; I. Mayes’s, “Old Reliance." 10.18.41, 3; W. Steer's “Outlaw," 11.3.26. 4; T. Hirst's “Blue Nymph," 12.16.44, 5. The birds were liberated at Picton on Saturday, and flew with a tail wind most of the way, putting up an average speed of 40 miles pel’ hour. The first six placings for club points were: —M. J. Miller's “Blue Spark," 2 hours 31min SOsecs, 1; W. J. Miller's “Silver Sail." 2.31.45. 2; Stears and. Miller's “Southern Pioneer." 2.31.53. 3; C. J. Douglas’s “Lady Dix," 2.32.3. -1: C. .1. Douglas's “Babette," 2.32.10. 5; .1. M. Mayes's "Black Magic," 2.32.24, 6. The next two races will be from Christchurch lor the South Island shield, and from Mercer, for yearlings only, for points in the Stears Rose Bowl.
