RED CROSS SOCIETY HOME NURSING LECTURES. (“Times-Age” Special.) A Red Cross Home Nursing lecture was given by Mrs Frank Bunny, of Greytown, last night. She dealt with temperatures and the administering of medicine. 4 At a meeting of the general committee which followed Mrs Sharp (president) and Mrs Willett (secretary) were appointed delegates to represent the Featherston sub-centre.
A GIFT EVENING IN HONOUR OF MISS D. BENTON. A pleasant time was spent in the Anzac Room on Tuesday night when Misses Tutbury and Graham, and Mrs H. Clark gave a gift evening in honour of Miss Dawn Benton, whose marriage to Mx- J. Duffy will ■ take place this week. A pleasant time was spent in dancing. Mr L. Daysh supplied the music, and Mr H. Graham acted as M.C. After supper- Mi’ Graham called upon Mi- Duffy and Miss Benton to open the parcels, which contained varied and useful gifts. Mr K. Allen, on behalf of the Tennis Club, wished Miss Benton and Mr Duffy a happy future, and presented them with some pyrex ware.
Mr Duffy thanked those present for their kind wishes and the gifts. The gathering closed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne..
ST. JOHN’S CHURCH SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION. The Sacrament of Confirmation was administered by the Right Rev. C. West Watson, Bishop of Christchurch, in St John’s Church last evening when there were 15 candidates from Featherston and two from Carterton. The church was packed for the service.
FIRE BRIGADE ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of members of the Featherston Fire Brigade the financial statement showed that, owing to heavy expense incurred in building the new fire engine, the credit balance in the funds had been reduced to 12s lid. This balance, however, will be increased by the 1939 grant from the Featherston Borough Council, which h,as not yet come to hand. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mi' D. H. S. Riddiford; president, Mr J. W. Card; Superintendent, Mr T. Tidswell; DeputySupt.. W. Boston; foreman. Foreman Habib; secretary, Foreman Habib; Ist motorman, Fireman H. Worsley; 2nd motorman, Fireman T. Browne; auditors, Deputy-Supt. Boston and Fireman A. Tait; trustees, Supt. Tidswell, Foreman Habib and Fireman A. Tait; executive committee, Supt. Tidswell, De-puty-Supt. Boston, Foreman Habib Firemen A. Tait, C. R. Skipage and H. Buck.
Supt. Tidswell presented Fireman A. Tait with a 2-year gold service bar. completing 33 years’ service. Fireman Tait’s services to the brigade were eulogised by Supt. Tidswell and other members. Fireman Tait suitably replied. At the ordinary meeting of members Supt. Tidswell referred to the death of ex-custodian J. Gall, and Mrs Chalmers, mothex - of Fireman C. Chalmers. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed in silence. Supt. Tidswell welcomed Fireman R. O'Keefe, who had joined the brigade. Fireman O'Keefe was until recently a member of the Carterton brigade.
