Mr R. Haigh. of Te Pohue, is visiting Grey town. Mr G. Benson has been re-elected president of the West Coast (N. 1. Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
Guests at the Midland Hotel, Masterton, include Messrs E. J. McNulty, Auckland; J. Watson, S. M. Wells, J. Drysdale, J. Robertson, J. Duncan, B. McKay, J. Lloyd and H. Holland, Wellington. The Rev D. J. A. Shaw, formerly of Hastings and recently appointed Presbyterian minister at Papakura, has sent his resignation to the Presbytery because of a breakdown in health. He is at present in hospital. Mr J. Siddells, Wanganui, who will be 80 years of age today, was presented with a shaving outfit and a box of cigars at a meeting of the Wanganui City Council as a mark of esteem. Mr Siddells is deputy-mayor of Wanganui. In the recent police examinations Constables N. D. Bach and F. L. Diggle, of Masterton, passed the literary tests (sub-inspectors) and Constable R. H. Hill, also of Masterton, secured a partial pass in the law section (sergeants). Formerly member of Parliament for Rangitikei, Mr G. H. Ormond Wilson (Bulls) has taken a position with the British Broadcasting Corporation after completing an extensive tour in Europe. Mr Wilson reached England in May, and after two months in this country he visited Norway, Sweden, Russia, Poland, and Germany.

Following the performance of her pupils in the Y.M.C.A. display at the Opera House, last night, the sports mistress at Wairarapa College, Miss Rona Edwards, was presented with a travelling rug by Mr E. M. Hodder to mark the Y.M.C.A.’s appreciation of her voluntary help in the girls physical training classes at the Y.M.C.A.
Mr Walter Gray, advance manager for the Celebrities Comedy Company, which will visit Masterton on Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18, playing "Charlie’s Aunt” and “Up in Mabel’s Room,” is at present in Masterton making arrangements for the visit of the company which is headed by Mr Don Nicol and Miss Shirley Ann Richards.
Regret that the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, was not able to be present on the historic occasion was ’expressed by the Mayor of Wellington and chairman of directors of the Exhibition Company, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, when speaking at the opening ceremony yesterday. "I had hoped that he would have had the opportunity of being present today,” Mr Hislop said, “and I hope that in a short time he will be able to come here and see what he has helped by his encouragement to create.”
