BRIGHT VARIETY
Y.M.C.A. DISPLAY LAST NIGHT. I The Y.M.C.A.'s work of building fitter and happier youth was illustrated brightly and entertainingly in the Opera House last night when the Masterton branch of the Association gave its annual display. Printed across the top of the programme were the words: —"The Y.M.C.A. is a community asset deserving community support,” a slogan that the Masterton public might very well take to heart, for the attendance must have been a disappointment to those who voluntarily organised she entertainment. A theatre that should have been packed to the doors was little more than half filled. There was a surprising variety of talent—gymnastics, solo dances, vocal solos and ducts, piano accordion, oper-„ atic dances, girls’ drill, pianoforte, keep fit exercises, humour and trapeze acts.
Speaking at an interval, on behalf of the Y.M.C.A. directorate, Mr E. M. Hodder said displays of work of this kind were too seldom seen in Masterton. He thanked and called for applause for the people from outside, who had given time and talent for the benefit of the Y.M.C.A. Mr Hodder referred, in particular, to Misses Dorothy Tate, Nola Woods and Rona Edwards, whose pupils had played an important part.
