A Friendly Offer.
Members of the Wellington League of Mothers have offered very kindly to extend hospitality to soldiers from provincial districts, now at Trentham Camp, who may find themselves without friends in Wellington. Any members of the league whose sons or other relatives would appreciate friendly attention and entertainment when on leave in Wellington are invited to communicate with the president of the Masterton League of Mothers. In his address at the opening of the Centennial Exhibition yesterday, the Minister of Industries and Commerce. Mr Sullivan, said that when the Dunedin and South Seas Exhibition was opened in 1925 there were 4547 factories in the Dominion, employing 80 327 persons. The annual wages bill was £15.690.202. and the value of factory production was £84.101.313. On the last available figures. 5924 factories were employing 102.344 persons, producing goods to the value of £113.691.556. and distributing £20.981,557.
Road Works. Road works in the Masterton County are being pushed on to completion. The reconstruction and deviation of the main highway at Taueru is virtually finished and provided supplies of bitumen come to hand sealing will be carried out this summer. The final touches are also being put on the Weraiti Road as far as the new bridge in course of construction over the Taueru River. Next Monday, the county plant will be shifted to the vicinity of the 10-mile peg on the Masterton-Stronvar highway. where a half-mile deviation is to be carried out. on the Masterton side of a deviation completed about two years ago.
